OmniTI has been helping people manage highly scalable internet systems going on two decades now, and one thing we know is that scalability isn't just about the number of servers you have or the number of transactions you process but instead it is a mindset and way of working that must be considered in all aspects of your organization. At Surge, we collaborate with the best and brightest in the industry to explore the various aspects of scalability, and we would love to have you join us.
What kind of talks do we look for at Surge?
We love talks about systems, architecture, and trade-offs that people make when designing their infrastructure. This includes aspects of configuration management, monitoring, distributed systems (whether in the cloud, on-prem, or a mix of both), fault-tolerance, resiliency, and deployment methodologies. Heterogenous technology stacks are real, common, and welcome.
Of course, if you only focus on the technology, your are missing a big piece of the puzzle. We also welcome talks on team structure, review techniques, post mortems, corporate re-organization, and establishing cross-organizational accountability. Our systems often pattern our communication processes, so no conference on systems is complete without addressing these needs.
Intimidated? Don't be. Everyone has interesting stories to tell, and at Surge, we care more about your honesty than your honors. Our favorite talks are those that recognize failure as a part of success. Truly valuable sessions present a problem and honestly walk the audience through the series of missteps that ultimately result in finding the right path. A story of success rising from the ashes of failure; the bigger the fire, the more people learn.
We want you to come and speak to a global audience on the challenges of scaling large Internet-facing architectures. Our speaker package includes free registration for the event, and travel and lodging assistance is available for those who need it. We are also happy to work with speakers to help them hone their presentations. Have a special need? Just ask and we'll see what we can do.
Remember, the CFP is open now, and the deadline for all proposals will be April 19, 2017.
We'd love to see you presenting at Surge! Want some inspiration? Here are the talks from Surge 2016.
